Visiting the Grand Canyon
So when you select a place to stay for your Grand Canyon Vacation, consider the Kings Ransom Inn, one of our Sedona Hotels, and enjoy our bargain rates for luxurious accommodations. Grand Canyon hotel rates are typically much higher.
Come to the Kings Ransom Inn during the week, Sunday night through Thursday night…when our rates are the lowest. Call 877-480-0044 to make your reservation.
Check in and enjoy a swim in our year round heated sparkling pool and enjoy the Spa. Need to keep in touch? Please, make yourself at home and use the computers in the lobby and of course we have printers too! Our friendly staff will be happy to assist you.
The next morning, take advantage of our complimentary healthy breakfast… we always have fruit available that you can take with you for the car ride (Breakfast begins at 7 a.m., so you can get an early start). Make a right turn out of the hotel, and begin an incredibly scenic drive that is a delight in itself. Make a right turn from Hwy 179 onto 89A and drive through uptown Sedona. Upon leaving uptown you will begin your journey through dramatic Oak Creek Canyon, one of the most beautiful roadways in Arizona, arriving in Flagstaff 2000 feet above Sedona.
From Flagstaff , the home of NAU, a wonderful college town, there are three ways to get to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. It will take you approximately 2 hours if you don’t linger along the way. Please view the Grand Canyon Area Map - we highlighted our recommended road tour with purple arrows. For more detail you can visit nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit.
This is a very scenic trip and if you decide to kick it up a notch stop in Williams and board a train, on the Grand Canyon Railway which will take you the rest of the way to the South Rim. Arrive at the Grand Canyon the way Theodore Roosevelt, Clark Gable, Doris Day and Bill Gates have! That adds a whole dimension an already memorable experience! However you get there, you will not be disappointed. It is magnificent.
You MUST go to the National Geographic IMAX Theatre! Do it first!
It's on the way. The National Geographic Visitor Center and Theater is located on Highway 64, on the left hand side, just south of the Grand Canyon National Park entrance in Grand Canyon, Arizona.
Over the Rim and Beyond
The IMAX® Movie, Grand Canyon: Discovery & Adventure
In only 34 minutes, viewers will discover a Grand Canyon that would take a lifetime to experience. The film opens with the beginning of man's fragile kinship with this twisting 277 mile Canyon, then moves the audience through time with brief glimpses at the stone pages of human history. From the mysterious Anasazi who inhabited the Canyon 4,000 years ago, viewers will travel through Grand Canyon history to join Major John Wesley Powell as he challenges the unexplored Canyon and raging Colorado River in 1869.
Imagine this! The screen image is 60 feet high, while the thunderous sound of the Colorado River rapids is delivered through 12,000 watts of digital surround sound. The 488-seat air-conditioned auditorium with stadium seating ensures that you’re right where you want to be – in the middle of the action! AWESOME!
Once you are at the South Rim, there is a new service you may want to take advantage of…with your cell phone. It is called the Personal Ranger. At Grand Canyon National Park, you can dial up an audio tour on your cell phone along the South Rim. At each stop, you call an indicated number, and the recorded voice of a ranger gives a two-minute talk about the scene before you. So far, there are a dozen stations installed…soon to be 25 stations along a five mile stretch of the path between Yaki and Maricopa points. The service is free! Isn’t technology wonderful?
